Gilm Kamay
Gilm Khairevich Kamay was born on February 23, 1901 in the town of Tetyushi of the Kazan province in family of a Volga loader. He was a self-educated person with the help of loaders - reading names of steamships. In 1916 he entered the tatar teacher's school in Kazan. From 1920 to 1922 Kamay was at party work in Moscow, then in Siberia in Omsk. The he was directed on study to the Tomsk university on chemical branch. In 1926 Kamay successfully graduated and the same year arrived to the Kazan university for postgraduate study at professor A.E.Arbuzov. After the finishing of postgraduate study in 1929 he, among a group of young scientists, trained in Germany at professor Jakob Meisengeimer in the Tubingen university. In Germany Kamay worked one year and a half, he synthesized arsenic organic compounds. Till the end of life he did not exclude the problem of arsenic organic chemistry from the circle of his scientific interests. In 1931 it(he) was elected managing faculty of intermediate products and dyes in the Kazan chemical technological institute. Since February, 1935 till August, 1937 Kamay - the rector of the Kazan university. In 1941 Kamay excellently defended the thesis for a doctor's degree on theme: "Research in the field of asymmetric compounds of phosphorus and arsenic". In 1946 Kamay headed the faculty of technology of basic organic synthesis at Kazan chemical technological institute. He died on March 17, 1970 |
